The Shriver Center at UMBC serves as a national leader in promoting applied learning, civic engagement, & community-based service delivery programs. Through Center Initiatives, faculty connect their research & teaching to relevant social needs, and students link academic study to professional practice & service to the community. The Center’s multifaceted approach, including internships, cooperative education & service-learning and the development and operation of national service delivery programs, was recognized by the Templeton Foundation as a “prototype for urban education in the 21st century.”
