National Science Foundation - Teaching Enhancement Partnership Project (TEPP): PI: Dr. Phillip G. Sokolove; Co-PI: Dr. Charles Eggleton, Co-PI: Dr. John Martello. A collaborative effort between Department of Biological Sciences, College of Engineering, The Shriver Center and five Baltimore area middle schools. This program brings UMBC students into classrooms to provide support to teachers in math, science, engineering and technology education.

Maryland State Department of Education’s Comic Book Initiative: The Shriver Center coordinates the higher education component of this exciting new project designed to support literacy education in Maryland schools and correctional facilities. In partnership with Diamond Comic Distributors, Inc. and Disney Publishing Worldwide, Inc., UMBC faculty support the development of instructional materials and program evaluation activities.  

National Science Foundation - The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Talent Expansion Program : PI: Dr. Taryn Bayles, Professor of Practice Chemical and Biochemical Engineering ; Co-PI: Claudia Morrell, Director Center for Women in Information Technology; Co-PI: Dr. Anne Spence, Assistant Professor Mechanical Engineering; Co-PI: Michele Wolff, Director The Shriver Center; Co-PI: Sylvia Sorkin, CCBC-Esssex Professor and Chair Mathematics and Computer Science. The Shriver Center partners in this program to provide paid internship opportunities for students attending CCBC and UMBC following the completion of thirty credit hours in a mathematics, science, or technology-related field. Internships will be provided in companies not currently hiring interns from UMBC to increase internship support and encourage the involvement of more businesses at UMBC and CCBC.
