Maggie Lebherz: Modern Language and Linguistics: Spanish.; Minor: Music: Vocal Performance, December 2008

"No matter where a student is placed at Walt Disney, they will finish the program a changed person. Not only do you grow as an individual; you gain experience in the workplace, learn the intricate and sensitive relationships and connections associated with working, make friends, building connections, and possibly set up future acquaintances for career opportunities with a multi-billion dollar company. I was also thrilled that I could earn credit towards my degree while making an income. Any job available through this program will create a stronger, more intelligent, and confident person with an insight into the workforce."

Placement: Walt Disney World Resort

Description of Duties: I spent the past semester living and working in Disney World while practicing my Spanish everyday. I received a Spanish language pin through an oral exam and was able to translate for the thousands of Hispanic guests that visited Disney World every year. My actual job was driving a safari truck for the Kilimanjaro Safari Ride in Animal Kingdom, but everyday I used my Spanish language skills to answer questions, direct guests, or simply strike up conversations while they were waiting in line. It was a wonderful experience and forced me to expand my skills in speaking, listening, and communicating in Spanish.

Future Career Plans: Next semester I will be traveling to Spain to study abroad for a semester. In the future I hope to use my Spanish in a business setting after earning my MBA. I am also considering the pathway of teaching English as a Second Language (ESOL) through the local school system or a non-profit organization.
