Chike C.U.C Nzegwu: Information Systems B.S.Certificate in Network Administration, May 2007

"Working at CMS & Arbitron has really prepared me for the corporate world. At this point I feel like a seasoned veteran and that I can be put into any organization and make a difference."

Placement: Centers for Medicaid Medicare Services (CMS), Summer 2006
Arbitron, Fall 2006

Description of Duties (CMS): During the Summer of 2006, I interned for CMS. As a college intern I was given a few light projects which tested my technical capabilities. I was able to show my group that I was capable of understanding and applying technologies to actual projects and daily tasks. I attended meetings and assisted in the migration of our infrastructure to J2EE. Halfway through my internship my group trusted me with daily operations on the actual production servers. I truly enjoyed my experience at CMS, not only did I meet great people in the government but I also met some UMBC alumni who offered tremendous support and advice.

Description of Duties (Arbitron): During Fall of 2006, I was employed by Arbitron as a Computer Assisted Telecom Operator.  As a CATI operator, I assisted in the Arbitron’s media research using the UNIX platform. I supplied data built by generating unidata queries. These vital reports went to other departments in the organization.  As a CATI operator it was imperative to ensure that the numbers and data were very accurate.  The experience was great and I have networked with a great bunch of people old and young alike, who have assisted in enhancing my knowledge and skills.

Future Career Plans: After graduation I plan on actively seeking full-time employment in an organization’s Information Technology department. I’m heavily considering private or government sector positions. Shortly following job placement, I plan to enroll in a graduate program and utilize the education reimbursement set forth by the organization.
